Gorgeous and 71

Looking through some photos and saw this one. Posted it before and still can't get over her presence. Hawaiian/Tongan, she is 71 years young, raised 5 children, practices martial arts, and looks fabulous.

Tongan Academician, Canberra

Love the different hues of black and the use of fabric and accents.
I love how this professor's beard and the bone carving create a line of symmetry with the red scarf and brown bag giving balance to his look. Quite awesome.

More Style.

Same professor during a performance. Still maintaining balance.

Bell Toller, O'ahu

When asked to wear white top with black bottom to a performance on the islands, look forward to a pacific variation. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this particular choice in pant. I love the pasifika design of the material and how it hangs on her as well. Perfect.

Traditional Asia, Washington D.C.

The purse and top are quite an impressive combination. This picture was taken by Sui Panoke so I'm giving her a shout out! Nice work and nice outfit!

More Poly Wear, O'ahu

I love tupenus. They have a masculine quality, not unlike the kilt.

More Pink, O'ahu

Lots of feminine style coming out of Asia. This outfit has two colors and four textures (collar, skirt, waist, and cardigan). Quite lovely.

Hawaiian Fusion, Washington D.C.

I love this picture. Two kupuna with classic and contemporary taste. They match without being too "matchy matchy". Her top, while classic Asia, is a subtle pink that gives rise to his outfit and the marble background; then the favor is returned. His Hawaiian top is made with quite a contemporary twist. Look at the sleeves. I HEART his lei and hat. He would have made the The Sartorialist if he was spotted in NY.

Celebrity Sighting, O'ahu

Vilsoni Hereniko. Many of you know he made the brilliant film: The Land Has Eyes.

Shown throughout the world at film festivals in 2004, it's an important piece for Islanders today in 2007 and will be 20 years from now. He's a professor, has been many places, seen many things, and won countless awards yet continues to maintain ancestral ties to his land and identity. He's my first celebrity post and for now the only celebrity worth posting.

The film is now on DVD and is a must have: www.thelandhaseyes.com.

Autumn, O'ahu

Sweet little hapa girl looking at the newly fallen red petal in her yard. Love the natural landscaping in the islands.

The Desk That Makes Me Smile, O'ahu

This is my husband's desk (at least part of it). The style and the orderliness makes me smile. He's my retentive hunk in this life and beyond. Perhaps he'll let me exploit his good looks on this blog one day. For now, check out the carvings from Tonga, next the piece from Rapa Nui, next to the royal lei, next to the Hawaiian basket, next to the Chamorro bracelet, next to the . . . ipod? The journey through modernity continues. . .

A Plug, O'ahu

This is the first endorsement on Style Pasifika. . . I'm sure many of you would acknowledge that this is an awesome picture. Not only because Pasifik Zen (see original post 10.9) is awfully handsome! But also the technique, the color, and the style causes a visceral effect on us, the consumer.

When the photo was taken, I was sad that what I wanted wasn't what was turning out. MARK LEE fixed this photo (and me in the process).

He's magic . . . oh, and he's also one of the best photographers I know.

Check out his work at : www.holladay.instaproofs.com

Let's Not Mince Words . . .

This outfit is AWESOME. And my photography skills . . . not so much. Still learning. She has a very well crafted ensemble on. The look is Island style professional. The weaved "briefcase" along with her crisp white shirt and Maori print wrap skirt and accessory. Well done.

This is one of those photos . . .

Where her choice of accessories are fabulous! She's a merchant in Haleiwa. Right next to Haleiwa Eats. Go down there and buy her stuff and email me with how YOU accesorized an outfit. The potential seems endless.

We Interrupt This Blog . . .

to bring you the Hawaiian Hula Honey Girl. . . step aside mr. bear, there's no end in sight to grass skirt marketing.

Cute little number, O'ahu

The dress combines island colors to form patterns that remind me of a typical hike here in Hawai'i. Cute and she is on her honeymoon!

Silver! O'ahu

Silver color scheme and great use of texture and surface to create a look that caught my eye. Plus, so happy to be alive!

Classic Hawaiian Fusing, O'ahu

Yes, a costume. But a classic. It combines Island print with velvet, length, and accessories. The outcome is stunning. Look at the women behind the model too! All ages and shapes are welcome and beautiful.

Window Shopping, O'ahu

Interesting Display. I quite enjoy the colors and the abstract Lauhala shirt. A little confused about the latter though. Any thoughts?

North Shore Friends, O'ahu

This is exactly how I saw him in front of Haleiwa Eats.

Relaxed and soaking up the atmosphere.

I don't want him to move a muscle so I start yammering something about, "hi, this is for my blog. so sorry to bother you. if you could not move. . ." If you could not move???

Well, he was a great sport. And was hangin with two totally cool gals (below). Did I just say gals??

Kakau from Kaua'i, O'ahu

Local surfer. His smile. His spirit. Kicking it with his little bro. The Kakau on his arm is a sleeve; goes all the way around. Mean.

A Match Made In Heaven

I just decided that "Pasifik Zen" and "A Find in Aotearoa" should consider hooking up.

What do you all think???

Otherwise, still at a conference with no equipment to post. Pics as well as a summary of the "emotion of water" will come asap.

In the meantime, can you see any other matches?

Arohanui.

Blog Action Day, the u.s. continent

It's the 16th of October and I missed Blog Action Day. On October 15th, bloggers around the web united to blog about single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. I'm late posting. Although not intentional, I believe I was meant to forget until this very moment. I just left a lecture on the power of water. More details tonight.

A Wonder, O'ahu

"Do you mind if I tell your age on the blog?"

"I don't mind at all!"

She is (deep breath) 73 years old. Fabulous Hawaiian/Tongan who raised five children and practices martial arts. She's a beautiful wonder.
